In this presentation at the 2007 EPS conference, Dr. Porter investigates what parts of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection that "took care" of the sin problem, and lays out a detailed examination of the doctrine of atonement. His explanation is mapped by three main points in his "penal substitution theory" which are that 1) People deserve punishment for their sins, 2) Jesus takes on this punishment in his work on the cross and 3) God the Father forgives human sinners on the basis of Jesus' finished work on the cross.
